Web Site Overview

The digital images contained in this site have been compressed and resized to allow for faster retrieval over the internet.  The original images are approximately 2 megabytes each.  After compression and resizing the images have been shrunk to about 60K or approximately 3% of the original size.  The thumbnails (that you have to click on to get the 60K image) are only about 5K each.  The following is an example of a thumbnail image.  Click on it to get the bigger image and then click on "back" to return to this page.

For those photo enthusiasts, the images contained in this site are taken with a Nikon D1, a 2.7 megapixel camera.  The newest technology today has doubled the megapixels to over 5 megapixels.  Nikon's newest professional digital camera, the D1x, is capable of 5.4 megapixel images.

The web site has been created with Microsoft FrontPage 2001 software.  Although the learning curve takes a couple days it is very user friendly and allows you to create your site without writing any HTML code.

Purpose of Site

For the last 25 years I have enjoyed photography and darkroom work as a hobby.  Over the last 10 I've been a computer/technology nerd.  The merging of photography and technology that has exploded in the last couple years has totally captivated me.  Two decades ago I would take pictures, develop the negatives in a darkroom, print a few of the images, and frame a handful of the best images.  These images were enjoyed by primarily me and my family.  Today at a sporting event I can take 300 images, upload the best 150 to an internet site, and distribute these to an unlimited number of people within several hours.

The goal of most photographers is the elusive attempt to capture a "timeless" slice of life.  Few images are universal, but all images capture a "timeless" moment of an individual's life that is special and unique for that person.  I've found great opportunities to capture "timeless moments" of young adults through high school sports.  Most of these athletes compete for the love of sport and the camaraderie and most will cherish these memories throughout their lives.  This site, therefore, has been created to capture and distribute "slices" of these young adult lives.

Emailing to Friends/Relatives

The best way to email images to a friend or relative is to email the link to the website.  To do this using Microsoft's Internet Explorer is shown in the attached graphic.  The person who receives the email simply has to click on the link to bring up the web site.

Setting an Image as Windows Wallpaper or Downloading Images

You can easily set an image you like as your Windows Wallpaper (the background to your main Windows screen).  If you get tired of the specific image after a while simply change to a new one.  To set an image as your Wallpaper click on the thumbnail image to bring up the larger image and right mouse click on the image.  The graphic will look as shown below.  Choose "Set as Wallpaper" if you want to use this image your Windows Wallpaper.  If you want to download the image to your hard drive choose "Save Picture As", name the image you are saving, and place it in a file folder on your hard drive.  You might want to create a file folder called "My Pictures" so it is easy to remember where you have stored your images.

Printing Images for a Scrapbook

Using Image Expert 2000, my favorite image management and printing software, you can easily print the digital images you've downloaded from this site.  You may already have other software that allows you to manage and print digital images which is fine.  The last thing you need to print scrapbook images is a good quality inkjet printer.  Photo quality printers have become relatively inexpensive and can be used for all of your other printing needs.  With a photo quality printer you should be able to produce good 3.5" x 5" or 4" x 6" photographs which are just fine for a scrapbook.
